Payments to CRA
Paying your taxes to the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) is straightforward, with multiple methods available to suit your preferences. Here's how you can make a payment:
1. Online Banking (Most Convenient)
Log into Your Online Banking: Access your financial institution's online banking portal, here
Add the CRA as a Payee: Add "Canada Revenue Agency – Personal Income Tax" as a payee.
Enter Your SIN: Use your Social Insurance Number (SIN) as the account number.
Select Payment Details: Choose the appropriate tax year and specify the payment type, such as "Amount Owing" or "Installment."
2. CRA My Account (Direct Payment)
Access CRA My Account: Sign in to your CRA My Account
Choose a Payment Method: Utilize the "Pay by Pre-Authorized Debit" option to set up automatic withdrawals or select "My Payment" to make a one-time payment directly from your bank account.
3. In-Person at a Financial Institution
Obtain a Remittance Voucher: Ensure you have a printed CRA remittance voucher, which can be obtained through your CRA My Account or by contacting the CRA.
Visit Your Bank or Credit Union: Present the remittance voucher and make your payment at the teller using cash or debit.
Additional Payment Options
Credit Card or Interac e-Transfer: Third-party services like Plastiq and PaySimply allow you to pay your taxes using a credit card or Interac e-Transfer. Be aware that these services charge a fee for processing.
By Mail: You can send a cheque or money order payable to the Receiver General for Canada, along with a remittance voucher, to the address specified on the voucher.
